Artificial intelligence can make scam emails, messages, calls, and videos look or sound convincing. Criminals may imitate a trusted person, manager, supplier, organisation, or family member using generated text, cloned voices, or deepfake video.
Warning signs
- The request is urgent, unusual, emotional, or asks you to bypass normal processes.
- A familiar person asks for money, credentials, or confidential information through a new channel.
- A voice or video seems slightly unnatural, or the details do not match the usual context.
Stay safe
- Pause before acting on urgent or emotional requests.
- Verify the request independently using a known phone number or established contact method.
- Use multi-factor authentication and keep devices, applications, and security software updated.
- Never share passwords, PINs, one-time codes, or sensitive information merely because a message sounds authentic.
